Advancing Models of Best Practice in Internationalization of Higher Education in Kazakhstan
Research Team

This is a collaborative research project involving researchers at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education and Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education. The research is sponsored by Nazarbayev University with funding from the Republic of Kazakhstan Ministry of Education and Science. Co-principal investigators for the project are Professor Laura Perna of the University of Pennsylvania and Associate Professor Aida Sagintayeva of Nazarbayev University.  The research team is comprised of Kadisha Dairova, Marina Kishkentayeva, Zakir Jumakulov, and Adil Ashirbekov, Nazarbayev University, and Kata Orosz and Dr. Bryan Gopaul,  University of Pennsylvania.

Development of Secondary Education Curriculum of Kazakhstan in the Context of Modern Reforms is a current research project implemented in strategic collaboration and close cooperation between local researchers of the Graduate School of Education and international colleagues of the University of Cambridge, Faculty of Education.
Development of Strategic Directions for Education Reforms in Kazakhstan for 2015–2020
The goal of this research project is to conduct an overall diagnosis of education system of the Republic of Kazakhstan in order to identify its strengths and weaknesses and to define directions for further modernization at all levels. This project aims to provide analytical support and development of specific recommendations for effective implementation of the State Program of Education Development in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2011-2020, taking into account the best international practices.

Advancing Models of Best Practices of Academic Governance and Management in Higher Education Institutions of Kazakhstan
The project is implemented in cooperation with the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education (PennGSE). This longitudinal investigation aims to examine international models of best practices in developing university autonomy in order to adapt such best practice in the context of higher education institutions (HEIs) of Kazakhstan. The goal of this project is to assess how HEIs in the Republic of Kazakhstan are ready for institutional autonomy and identify best practice models of decentralization in higher education.
